When I try to use the Flash 10 that comes in the repository I suffer from a very high CPU usage on websites that contain Flash animations.
A temporary solution while the version in the repository is not fixed is to use the Adobe’s version installed manually. To do so, follow the steps bellow:
- Go to http://labs.adobe.com/downloads/flashplayer10.html
- Download the Linux .tar.gz version
- Extract it to a temporary directory
- Execute the flashplayer-installer
- Answer the questions
Now the issues related to the high cpu usage shall disappear.
PS: The FlashBlock still doesn’t work

Hi, I’m back with my results.
I installed the Ubuntu package for this version of flash.
I do average lower CPU usage when just browsing sites that have flash ads on them.
When I’m on Youtube and not playing my usage is 5-7% avg, and when I’m playing a video on there it is 40-55%.
I ran this test with 7 tabs open. My normal tab load is 12+ on average (college student).
I’m on a laptol AMD Turion X2 1.6Ghz, 4GB RAM, 100GB HDD, wireless internet, on Ubuntu.
Then again you have some sites that have a ton of unnecessary JavaScript and nonsense flash.

I also have installed the new one from adobe, and seen a big cpu reduction especially in fullscreen playback.
I am using 64bit plugin direct from adobe. It is still an alpha build but clearly getting better.
